Try our new Organic Brazil Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, which comes from Mogiana.
This organic Brazil is special. First, it's a great cup of coffee. We found it to have great citrus notes, with a delicate and silky body. Next, they way it is grown: organically. This farm is not just organic, it acts as an outdoor laboratory where students and farmers may study the interconnectedness of elements on both the coffee plantation, and in the rest of the world.
The fazenda focuses on 4 principles: happy people, carbon sequestration, forests, and creating partnerships. The Fazenda raises cattle for milk and uses the manure to fertilize the coffee plants. They also use the coffee pulp as a natural fertilizer. This makes the people and the plants happy. Included in their forest canopy are fruit trees. These trees help to shade the coffee and to feed the workers.
At Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (FAF), natural grasses and undergrowth are encouraged to grow between the coffee plants. This helps to maintain the soil and protect it from sun damage and erosion. This growth is cut back 3 times per year and left to lie on the ground. This plant life then decomposes, lending more nutrients to the soil.
Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza recognizes the need for organic and sustainable agriculture but also recognizes that it cannot happen in isolation. Organic production at FAF is not going to change the world. That is why they focus on being an outdoor laboratory and sharing what they've learned about a happy earth and happy people.
