PURCHASE PLANNING

We have designed our purchase planning tools with you in mind to make buying coffee with us smoother than ever. By purchase planning, you can make decisions based on the most up-to-date information on current crop offerings with expert guidance from our sales reps working closely with our green buyers at origin. Planning ahead for this year’s Guatemalan harvest allows you first access to a wider variety of fresh-crop lots, the opportunity for greater possible creative sourcing outside our typical offerings, and the assurance of coverage throughout the year until the following harvest season. Guatemala offers a wide variety of versatile cup profiles and we are here to plan ahead with you to find creative solutions for your business needs, whatever they may be!

Despite its relatively small size, Guatemala’s various coffee-producing regions provide a vast range of profiles, influenced primarily by varieties and microclimates. Our selection of Guatemalan offerings is made possible by our longstanding relationships within several of these district-growing regions.

PARTNERS & RELATIONSHIPS

Our presence in Guatemala stretches all the way back to the beginning of Cafe Imports and our green buyers, Piero and Lucho, care for our longstanding partnerships here by visiting farms, cupping alongside our partners, and offering support and advice along the way. Included among the diverse district growing regions that we source from here, Piero takes care of our relationships in Huehuetenango, while Lucho explores and nurtures newer relationships in Atitlan, Antigua, Coban, and Sierra Las Minas.

In all regions, we work with several counterparties to source coffees directly from smallholder producers. Through these partnerships, we are able to support programs and initiatives that provide farmers with opportunities for higher earnings through quality production.

TIMELINE

Planning now always pays off later, here’s how simple planning can be:

APRIL

Reach out to your sales rep about your needs in early April. By getting in touch ahead of time, you can take advantage of a larger selection of offerings to choose from.

MAY

Quetzal and Waykan samples from Guatemala will be available from May onward.

JUNE & JULY

We expect to see microlot offerings begin to ship in June and July.

AUGUST & SEPTEMBER

These coffees will become available after arrival between late August and September. See below for more details on shipment and arrivals.

CURRENT CROP

Our green buyers at origin confirm that the Guatemalan harvest this year is slotted to be on time.

Quality for this harvest looks to be standard.

We expect shipments out of Guatemala to be delayed this harvest season due to COVID-related supply chain disruptions.

As we strive to work closely with our customers, our current offerings are generally representative of the needs of our specialty coffee community here in Australia. That being said, we have access to coffees far beyond our offerings list thanks to our extensive sourcing programs around the world — all you need to do is reach out to us. If there’s something that you’re looking for, we’d love to work with you and our sourcing team to turn your needs into a reality.
