Attikan Estate is owned by Sangameshwar Coffee Estates Ltd., a 57-year-old company. Coffee from Attikan Estate has been branded and recognized internationally as "Veer Attikan," and has won numerous awards, most recently including the "Flavour of India Fine Cup Award" in 2011 for Best Arabica of India, 2012 for 2nd Best Arabica of India, and 2013 for Best of Biligiri Region.

Attikan Estate's farm size is 448 acres: 75% planted in coffee, and 25% of the land planted as a protective wind belt for the coffee trees.

Attikan Estate has 80 employees producing 140 to 150 tons of coffee annually.

Location & Region of growth : Located in Chamraj Nagar District, nestled in the Biligiri Rangan hills (B R Hills).

Topography: Our East and West facing slopes along with our Natural Wind Arresters provide a unique Topography. Our estate with its natural source of water is a natural habitat for many wild animals like Elephants, Indian Gaur, Tigers, Leopards, Black Bear & Spotted deers.

Weather & Rainfall : 60 to 70 inches of annual rainfall from the Southwest and Northeast Monsoon between July to October. Temperature between Nov and January drops to 12°c & during the summer months of February to May touches a high of 28°c.

History: A Scottish man, Randolf Morris came on horseback from Coonur and opened up Attikan in 1888.Randolf Morris was wounded by a bison and his wife managed the estate. After their lifetime, the Estate was managed by their son A.E.C.Morris, a friend of our Founder Chairman Mr. K.S.Vaidyanathan who founded Sangameshwar Coffee Estates Ltd to take over Attikan. The tomb of the horse, Akbar belonging to Randolf Morris is found adjacent to the Top Bungaow with a dedication from Morris further adds authenticity to the story.

Uniqueness: Our remoteness has helped maintain our pristine style of living and we do not have access to electric power. Our 125 year old stone bungalow is still maintained in its original glory. The dense forest around the estate provided the perfect camouflage for the infamous bandit Veerappan.

Operations: Coffee is grown under major native trees for filter shade comprising of Atti(Fig) which also enhance our unique taste profiles. Minimum use of chemicals and major works being done manually contribute in preserving the purity of our environment with atmost care being taken to protect Natural,Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems along with wild life.

The human touch: The plantation workers are well provided for with Housing, Free Medical facility, Crèche and water supply. A Government School nearby, ensures education for the children of our workers with the a few benefits provided by us. Majority of our daily wage workers belong to an ancient tribe called the Sholigas,who have lived on the Estate for many generations.

Picking & Processing : We have different blocks, which have unique strains and taste profiles. Three rounds of selective hand picking ensure a high percentage of parchment. Processing is by a Pinhlense Pulper with Natural Fermentation, Aqua Washing & Slow Drying on Barbeque Bricks Drying Yard or Elevated rays. Our huge Vats further help us to keep each block or strain separate. Dry Milling with modern milling facility in our Curing Works in Hassan, with hand garbling further ensures the best in quality.
