We’re Hiring: Creative Director

Cafe Imports is an independently owned importer and developer of fine specialty coffees, and is seeking a creative director to oversee the global marketing department, as well as set and maintain the overall tone for Cafe Imports. The Creative Director is responsible for guiding and inspiring the marketing department at Cafe Imports and collaborates with both the head of the sales and sourcing departments in order to properly tell the story of what we do.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about Cafe Imports’ work and engagements around the world and will be able to create a cohesive and accessible message about our global activities to both our direct customer base (specialty coffee roasters) as well as other coffee professionals and consumers around the world. They will have a sense of the significance of timing in the coffee industry and will be able to juggle several concurrent long- and short-term projects. This person will be part of the team that is charged with making Cafe Imports the world leader in coffee education, quality, and approachability.

The creative director acts as the initial point person for all Cafe Imports global marketing needs and manages tasks by delegating responsibilities within the Cafe Imports marketing department (including managing editor and content specialist), advising, contributing, and executing marketing items and efforts wherever necessary. The Cafe Imports marketing department is responsible for the outward-facing visual, print, digital, and creative identity of Cafe Imports, Cafe Imports Australia, Cafe Imports Europe, La Bodega, and Cafe Imports Sourcing (Oxcart Coffee, the Resource program).

The creative director is expected to have extensive graphic-design skills to complement the skill set of the rest of the marketing team. This person should also have a sense of curiosity about the greater specialty-coffee world and a passion for telling stories across several mediums.

Department responsibilities include creative development and company identity, website administration and content, website development, sponsorship relations and management, event planning and execution, customer-focused communication, social media management, and content production.

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in marketing or graphic design
  • 5 years’ minimum experience in marketing
  • 5 years’ minimum experience in a leadership position
  • Extensive experience in graphic design
  • Demonstrated ability to create impactful artwork
  • Cultural awareness and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Interpersonal skills when working directly one-on-one with vendors, suppliers, and partners
  • Positive attitude
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including internationally to coffee-producing regions and global sales offices


  • Direct experience working in the specialty coffee or fine foods industries
  • Diverse marketing skillset including photography, video editing, and simple coding/Web development
