Colombia Update

As many of you may already be aware, the nation of Colombia has been in a state of national strike since early May. The varied effects of these strikes by truckers and port workers are felt in the daily lives of the Colombian people and on the global scale. While the landscape of these issues continues to develop, we remain committed to our long-standing partnerships.

By speaking with our partners, counterparties, and friends in Colombia, we have the following updates to share with you:

  • As of last weekend, roads have begun to clear, improving traffic flow at multiple points in the supply chain. Farmers have gained more access to purchasing points where they can sell their coffee. Additionally, there have been improvements in the transport of coffee from purchasing points to dry mills and milled coffee to ports for export.
  • Early to mid-harvest coffees that have already been dried and prepped on the farm can now be taken to receiving stations. As a result, we will start to see samples and contracts from these coffees soon.
  • Banexport and our other partners in Colombia can start sending milled and packaged containers to the port of Buenaventura. At this time, other ports present less viable options for us, as they are currently more congested.
  • Although we are now seeing movement, this does not necessarily mean that coffees will arrive on time. Significant backlog will likely bottleneck the flow of coffee from operational ports like Buenaventura. For this reason, many of our shipments have been rolled into the future.

We will continue to remain flexible in navigating any changes that may affect our partners and the flow of coffee from Colombia. As developments continue, we will provide you with the most up-to-date information that we have to share with you.
