Chalatenango Best Cup

March 25–30 2019

This is our first time hosting a full Best Cup cupping competition and auction in Chalatenango, El Salvador, though we have worked closely in the area for several years. The Chalatenango Best Cup Discovery cupping and silent auction in 2018 showed us that there is indeed plenty of interest in remarkable small-lot coffees from producers in this area, and this event will not only generate a lot of excitement in the region, but also be an incredible way to showcase the best coffees and to create a world of possibility for the growers.

Attendees on this Best Cup trip will cup through the competition lots, as well as Regional and Variety Select offerings, as well as visit farms and meet producers. There will be a silent auction for the Regional and Variety Select coffees, and a live auction for the top-scoring lots.

The nature and pace of these Best Cup competitions and auctions demand some cupping experience and a degree of comfort with assigning quality scores to coffees in a manner similar to the SCA grading standards and protocol. Feel free to ask us how to prepare for your time at the Best Cup competition; we will be happy to get you ready for this thrilling and unique buying opportunity!
