SCA Expo 2023 Round-Up!
We’ve made it. SCA EXPO is this week, April 20-22! Here’s a quick rundown of everything we’ve got going on at the booth and beyond! We can’t wait to catch up, drink coffee, eat food, and party with you.
First off, come see us at Booth 2166!
We’ll have sign-ups for the below events, beautiful coffees, and swag (including some incredible in-house designed playing cards), and you can demo The Coffee Rose.
Alright, let’s get into the round-up!
It’s back – the biggest coffee swap in the country! In short, you (a coffee roaster) trade in your bag of coffee for another roaster’s coffee, along with their contact information. Once you’re home and you’ve cupped the coffee, you’ll get in touch with one another to share feedback and create a new friend in the process! Sign up now or in person at the show! Once signed up, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win an Ikawa Pro50 Sample Roaster.
- Coffee Drop-Off: Show open to Saturday, 3:00 PM PDT
- Coffee Pick-Up: Show open – show close
- Ikawa Winner Drawing: Sunday, 1:00 PM PDT
We are gathering with roasting partners over coffee, pastries, and a light breakfast before Friday’s EXPO.
Topic: Social Programs: Challenges and Successes
Our producer speakers will be Robel of Lulu Coffee, Ethiopia, Ivania of Aldea Global, Nicaragua, and Rony of Lima Coffee, Peru. The discussion will be moderated by Cafe Imports educator/researcher Dr. Taya Brown.
We believe this conversation will give us a deeper insight and appreciation of the dedication required to run social programs successfully. Seats are still available, so register here!
- Date & Time: Friday, April 21, 8:30-10am PDT
- Location: Louiza – Event Space, 2808 Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard #Suite B Portland, OR 97212
In an effort to connect our roasting and producing partners, we are hosting a party at Olympia Provisions Public House! Award-winning small plates and drinks are on the house and the entire venue is ours for the evening! RSVPs are currently full, but come by our booth to get on the waitlist.
- Date & Time: Friday, April 21, 5:30-9 PM PDT
- Location: Olympia Provisions Public House, 3384 Southeast Division Street Portland, OR 97202
We are hosting a cupping at the EXPO Cupping Exchange, featuring a massive flight of pre-shipment samples from at least six producing countries! For more information and to get on the waitlist, come by our booth!
- Date & Time: Saturday, April 22, 2:00-3:00 PM PDT
- Location: Room F150 at the Oregon Convention Center
Have you seen the news about our newest cupping protocol, The Coffee Rose? Check it out here! We’ll be demoing the application all weekend. Come by, taste coffees, and use The Coffee Rose to analyze the coffee. We’ll be publishing everyone’s analysis in real-time onto a screen, showing how we all interpret and score the coffees on bar. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on the past few years.
Aside from Coffee Rose demo-ing, we’ll have amazing swag, guest brewers with beautiful coffees, and some of our staff hanging out at other booths! Here’s our day-by-day schedule:
